Most of you have been with me for a minute, and I say thank you. I'm thinking of changing my format up a bit. I'll still do blogs, but I want to try and do a weekly podcast if possible. At least monthly. I'll need your support for topic ideas and feedback as well. So if you got any ideas, post em up right here. I want to have one up in the next 2weeks. Post em up, and thank you.
Disclaimer: I am writing this raw, no editing, you get what I feel, be advised.
There is more than one way to skin a cat. It's quite obvious that a solid 90% of the outrage against Obama and his presidency is with him being black. Cries of "we want our country back" and all this rhetoric about health policies and such are attempts to mask the real issue, racism. If you take the time and watch the video below, it's plain to see that closet racism makes the world go round...or should I say blatant.
But when we get beyond yelling lie to our President during his speech, he's still our President. So what else is there to do? I get it, vilify and destroy anyone else that has status and has the same skin. What an idea! Examples? I thought you'd never ask.
Mike Vick, hey, you knew I was going to talk about this, but hear me out. Let's be clear, I think Vick was an idiot for getting involved in what he did and I think it's terrible, well, maybe not terrible, but clearly not good for your chi. We must understand that Vick went to jail for FINANCING AND RUNNING A INTERSTATE GAMBLING RING. He did NOT go to jail for killing dogs, dog abuse, or any of that shit and has maintained his innocence in stating that he had no hands in killing the dogs. Did he know, probably, but did he hang dogs and shit, he says no...nor what he convicted for that. Let's get beyond that though, because I don't give a shit about that part honestly....the man was financing a gambling across state lines, that in itself is a felonious crime, you gotta do time, keep the clock running. He paid his dues, he lost MILLIONS of dollars and has signed a contract that some practice team players would turn down. He's said he will work with this org and that org, do talks, etc. So what the fuck else is wrong? People are showing up protesting, acting as if this man should be banned from breathing the same air as the rest of the world. They don't want him to play football, they want him to give, I've heard, up to half of his salary and endorsements to PETA or some other dog friendly org. Sooo, because this man was "allegedly" involved with the killing of dogs, he should pay for the rest of his life? Really? You love dogs enough that you feel like he should never play football again? Really? You feel that it's unfair that he gets to go back to his career...one that he's been preparing for since before high school and has helped fatten the pockets of countless people...which happens to be football? Really? What should happen? Let me know. What would be "fair" to you for Michael Vicks CONVICTED crime, not this alleged bullshit, the stuff he was convicted for?
Don't worry, I'll wait.
Plaxico. Yes, in 2009 that is a complete sentence. For those that look like Plax and are outraged that he got time and think that it's because he was black, shut up. He was indicted on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and a single count of reckless endangerment in the second degree, both felonies. In other words, he had a gun that was not licensed in the state and a gun that was concealed without a permit as well as not being safe or responsible with the gun that did discharge in the club (had it hit someone else, or killed someone....yeah). I don't know much about gun laws, but I'm sure that if I buy a gun in Florida, I can't just carry it to New York like it's OK. It's a weapon, at what point do you check into gun laws? Not only that, I've never had a gun, but I'm quite sure that everyone can't just carry concealed weapons all willy nilly. So that said, Plax didn't follow the rules, act responsibly, and aside from himself, he could have injured someone or worse. He had prior instances as well and a time out was probably in order. However, I just saw some biddy on TV joking about Plax being in gen pop in jail and acting like that's where he belongs. "If he learns the rules in jail, which are just like street rules...don't snitch, mind your business, etc. he should be fine.....he may want to get some cigarettes, ha ha ha." Really? Look, the man isn't special to me, he can walk by in front of me right now and I'd tell him to get his tall ass from in front of the television, but acting like he isn't high profile and that he may not be a target is irresponsible. Fans have gotten killed at games for wearing opposing team jerseys, but you want to put an actual PLAYER in jail with gen pop and act like no one is going to want to try him for carrying a gun (so you wanna be a tough guy Plax)? Just like Vick man, once someone can't make money off you, they show you what the fuck they really think about you.
Serena Williams. Okay, she kirked out on the chick for fucking with her and we all should be able to relate. If you've had a job or played a sport, there is always someone that is fucking with you and you have days you feel like slappin' a bitch. Serena had one of those days. There are talks of suspension and banning her from this or that, yada yada. The story ran for a good week on ESPN. The next damn day, a white male counterpart had a similar tirade and that shit did 3 minutes as a story. When you read the story and the comments about Ms. Williams, there are folks even suggesting a lifetime ban on her for this outburst, really? Word to McEnroe, you muthafuckas have lost your mind.
Kanye...is an idiot. I'm an artist, if not by trade, then by education and spirit. If I ever get a moment to win an award for anything and anyone comes up on stage to take the mic out my hand and say someone else deserves it over me, then I'll be roomies with Plax. As an artist, you have to respect your peers, period. I don't give a shit about that bottle of Henny, I'm sorry that your mom passed, and I understand that you are goin' through and have acted out before. However, what you did was bad, real bad Michael Jackson. He apologized, he said he's going to take time off, and I'm sure that Taylor Swift album sales spiked and they will be the feel good story of next years VMAs when they do that joint song for his next CD. Hey, I don't know Taylor Swift from Stromile Swift in a line up and I'd never heard her song or seen the video, so I won't go on about how right Ye's opinion may have been, but really, those of you that twitter have lost your fucking minds. Is all THIS really necessary?
Look, I could go on and on for days...shout out to Frankie and Neffie, Tiny and Toya, Real Chance at Love, etc....about how media has taken pride and love in perpetuating the bullshit and advancement of stereotypes when it comes to those that look like Obama. Or let's be responsible about, are we just acting up because Obama is in office? I guess if you think it's a coincidence that while we make the smaller part of the outside population in the US, but the largest part of the population in jail, then yes, we clearly aren't being responsible. Shout out to the Harrison Act of 1914.
Is there a point to all ^that shit^ I typed above? Maybe not to you, but I'm venting. I'm tired of watching the public castration of our men and social homicide of our race in media. From the attack on Hip Hop that erupted when a white man spoke irresponsibly about our women on his radio show, to the show given to a white man that openly hunts us and calls us Nigger on TV, to the near destruction of several professional black male athletes who get accused of rape and the brush under the rug way that Ben Rothlisbergers charge has been treated. it's obvious to me, that Brown Skin is public enemy number one.
I didn't realize it had been soo long since I blogged.
I'm thinking about trying my hand at internet radio or something, would you come? What would you want to hear, talk about. Would you call in on skype for discussions? Hmmmm
I'm starting to think that graphic design isn't for me. I like making logos and stuff, but I don't know what's going on with me. I don't like how folks flake off when you don't tell them you'll do it for free. Like, because I don't design from a high rise building I should do it for free.
I'm restless. I need a vacation from here. I have a trip looming to PHX in October. I miss my family. It will be good to see them again. I want to visit my hometown very soon too. May have to make that happen.
With Ne-yo's recent on stage situation and my own trials in life, I started to ponder this dilemma. Why is it that a man that shows emotion is considered weak. It's not just about crying, but it's about emotion in totality. If you confess love "too soon"(whatever the hell that means) you are a weak man. If you say you miss her, you are sprung. If you say that you love your boy you have to say no homo, pause, or to do so without the previous disclaimers makes you "gay". If you get depressed, you are immature and less of a man. I don't get it.
If you are religious, Jesus cried. If you are human, most of our leaders have cried or showed an emotion other than aggressiveness. The ability to embrace and understand the realm of emotion as well as the strength to exhibit and convey the complexity that is the emotional spectrum isn't inherent to manhood or femininity; it's the mark of true maturity. Just being an adult in today's world is tough enough, never mind the added hardship of living up to standards that other people place upon you.
You show me a man with no emotion, and I show you a sad man.
